SPECIAL CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES:
SCP-8218 cannot be fully contained due to its nature. Foundation resources are to be diverted into recovering records of SCP-8218 events and amnestisization of eyewitnesses. Global exclusionary sites are to observe SCP-8218 events if possible and transcribe them.
All exclusionary sites possessing testimony of a SCP-8218 event are to file a report for Exclusionary Site-76.
DESCRIPTION:
SCP-8218 designates a recurring anomalous phenomenon in which the entire landmass, infrastructure, population, and all other matter contained within the internationally recognized borders of two sovereign countries or nations undergo instantaneous anomalous translocation and fusion. This process results in the formation of a single colossal humanoid entity whose precise dimensions vary between events but consistently exceed several kilometers in height.
The resultant entity engages in prolonged physical combat with a second, similarly formed entity produced from the opposing nation. Combat will take place within a crater formed by one of the competitors' borders, in which a competitor is assumed to directly manifest. Combat persists until an unknown set of conditions is met. The following will occur upon conclusion of combat:
- All previously incorporated matter is instantaneously returned to its point of origin, restoring national borders, infrastructure, populations, and environmental features to their pre-event states.
- Affected civilian and military personnel exhibit no memory of the event or the interim period. Medical and psychological examinations reveal no residual trauma, physiological alteration, or awareness of discontinuity beyond minor discrepancies in personal timelines.
- All ecological or geopragical effect to surrounding matter during an event appear to revert to a pre-event state.
Post-event geopolitical and socioeconomic outcomes are consistently asymmetrical and appear to favor the victorious entity:
- The nation corresponding to the victorious entity experiences measurable improvements in economic performance, population health metrics, diplomatic influence, technological output, natural resource accessibility, and/or territorial stability.
- The nation corresponding to the defeated entity experiences corresponding degradation, including economic contraction, population decline, infrastructure degradation, political instability, environmental deterioration, rapid cultural shifts, and or complete dissolution as a sovereign entity.
The mechanism by which Competitor-1 and Competitor-2 are selected remains unknown. Manifestation intervals are irregular, ranging from decades to centuries, with no discernible temporal pattern. Events have been retroactively identified across multiple historical periods, though primary evidence is limited to fragmented survivor testimonies and circumstantial indicators.
No method of communication with the entities during manifestation has succeeded. Attempts to observe events in real time via orbital, thaumaturgic, photographic, or other remote means have produced inconsistent or corrupted data.

MIKEL: Now let’s take it from the top, shall we?
STAN: I want my lawyer.
MIKEL: You’re not in trouble, Mr. Montgomery. We just want your statement regarding what you saw.
STAN: Was it…real? Everything, I mean, I’m still not sure if I’m goin insane or not.
MIKEL: You will be, to everyone in your life after this interview. But know that everything you witnessed did in fact occur.
STAN: So like, is Bigfoot real, too?
MIKEL: Let’s not get off topic, Mr. Montgomery.
STAN: Oh, right. Well, to begin, I was in my house when it started watching ice hockey. During half time went to get some fresh air, that’s when I saw them…
MIKEL: Elaborate on what exactly you saw.
STAN: Well…it was like two giant humans made up of flesh…and concrete and dirt, obviously, you get the point. Regardless, I saw them clearly despite everything happening far away. Though I guess I live closer to the border than most. I remember they had these large sheets on their backs like capes, maybe flags? I’m not good with geography so I couldn’t tell you which country.
MIKEL: That’s unfortunate.
STAN: That’s what my professors said. Anyway, they were beating the shit outta each other, like straight going at it. Large chunks of whatever they were made of were flying everywhere.
MIKEL: What was your response to the sight?
STAN: At first, I thought I was just high, and that my brain was manifesting my frustration with those damn Oilers!- cough I’m sorry. Anyway, I realized some bullshit was happening a few minutes after that. Tried to take footage of it all, but it just captured the sky, don’t know what’s up with that.
MIKEL: Did you tell anyone else? Did anybody you know also see the event?
STAN: I dunno, the whole thing was just so..enthralling I couldn’t keep my eyes off it, you know? Got all hyped for a bit, almost wanted to jump in myself!
MIKEL: How did the event end?
STAN: Well, eventually, the smaller one looked like it was pushed against the…" ring?" Whatever, he got the big one by surprise and finished it off with a mean uppercut. I didn’t even see him explode, big guy just vanished, poof.

I'm putting this along with the event logs so that anyone with some authority can actually respond to my concerns. The date is April 25th, 2028, and I'm Dr. Mikel Compton. Head researcher of SCP-8218.
Recently, we got a report about an 8218 event with multiple countries involved. Coupled with the increasing number of reports we're getting from the other sites, it's not looking good. Previously, we would've waited it out as the events happened slower than new countries popped up, and it wasn't worth whatever it would take to stop them. This would be the part where I propose a solution.
A solution that I don't have yet. Sure, we could go scorched earth, burn the concept of a country or nation from the noösphere, create world peace, or hell just attack the giants to see what happens. But I can't shake the feeling that we reap more benefits from the political influence the events provide than we would gain by ending them.
Regardless of that, the site I'm writing this in was hit by an event a few weeks ago, and the ground beneath it has mostly disappeared. Surprisingly, I don't remember what nations were involved, must be some byproduct of the site's protection.
If I had to give good news, I guess we can record more events faster.

How do you explain to someone that you couldn't give a shit about their hardest struggles? That you would love to care, love to feel wronged as they did, but just can't bring yourself to? Now explain that to the entire world. No matter how many times I try to think about the consequences of the numbers before me. I can't say it bothers me. It's not like I'm indifferent; it's not like I don't know. Hell, I know what's going on more than anyone, but it just doesn't feel real.
How is it real? How am I supposed to treat it like it's real? Supposed to act as the entire world crumbled over the course of the only few days I didn't bother looking at the reports. Maybe it was longer than that, maybe it's staying in this damn site longer than what feels like a thousand lifetimes.
Everyone else here is gone. I don't want to remember where they went. Cleaning all the blood was trouble enough. I'm surprised the site is still standing. We were practically on a tightrope ever since most of the ground beneath it just disappeared. I would look, but the sky is a color I don't know, and I'm scared of tipping over. For what it's worth, I'll keep recording what I can. At least there's still food.

I met with an overseer today, only one left i think. He came by the site somehow and started talking about the land not restoring itself after the events or whatever. Didn't show him the journal, didn't let him finish talking. Figured that out a long time ago.
I think I can go outside now, the sky is still weird though. When I looked outside, there were animals there. I guess animal doesn't begin to describe those beautiful things. Some came out of the dirt, some came out of the overseer's body. Some had eight eyes, and some had none. They were colorful, pure. I call them newlings, and I hope they're not mad at me. Because I don't feel guilty. It's not like I started this. Hell, I still remember making bets with the team about which country the events would hit next. Funny, I was never the lucky one back then.
It all feels unfulfilling. I thought we would figure it all out eventually. The reason, the rules, whatever. I'm gonna leave the site, throw the flash drive with the journal to the newlings. They aren't influenced by humanity, by high intelligence, not yet anyway. They'll probably eat the drive and forget, but that's just me. If I had to share any regrets before I go, I wish I had asked for a raise. Yeah, I know.
