SCP-9530 at initial discovery.

Special Containment Procedures:

A 2-meter high border wall has been erected at a radius of 10 metres around SCP-9530. Any personnel attempting to cross into said border for research concerning SCP-9530 are to carry a firearm of sufficient calibre to dispose of instances of SCP-9530-1. These can be obtained from one of three checkpoints around the border of the exclusion radius. In the case that an instance of SCP-9530-1 is proven to be non-hostile, it can be removed from the perimeter for attempted interrogation with permission from at least one (1) researcher with Level 3/9530 clearance.

Deceased instances of SCP-9530-1 may be disposed of as and when it is most convenient. Until that point, they must be stored in Anomalous Item Storage Wing D.

Description:

SCP-9530 is an abandoned building located in the centre of Site-210. The architecture is brutalist in style, and the building reaches approximately 150 ft in height from the outside. The interior of SCP-9530 constitutes a pocket dimension of unknown size, though generally manifesting as a set of rooms that would be expected of a skyscraper or equivalent urban building, extending upwards to an undetermined distance. SCP-9530's presence in Site-210 was first discovered at 12/01/2025, during the transport of SCP-9737 after a minor breach. Security footage later revealed it to have manifested at approximately 9:00 AM, though it remained unnoticed for a further 15 minutes.

SCP-9530-1 refers to a species of entity resembling a twisted human corpse, with variable dermal mutations including, but not limited to: discolouration in the epidermis, usually blue or purple; build-up of pus or equivalent bodily fluids beneath the surface of the skin; shifting lacerations present across the torso and forearms, measuring on average 0.9 mm in depth; faded scars resembling various humanoid figures, the identity of which have not been discovered; and large mounds of scar tissue resembling rocky protrusions, usually occurring at the shoulders and spinal column. They are capable of movement up to 30 km/h, and have zero internal organs, with occasional exceptions (see Addendum 9530-α-a). The vast majority of instances possess intelligence and instincts equivalent to that of a predatory mammal, such as the lion (Panthera leo), grey wolf (Canis lupus), or jaguar (Panthera pardus). However, approximately 0.06% of SCP-9530-1 instances possess a higher intelligence on par with humans, although usually suffer symptoms analogous to mania and audio-visual hallucination in humans.

Instances of SCP-9530-1 appear within unoccupied space on the interior of SCP-9530 at a seemingly random frequency. Passive behaviour is currently undetermined.

Addendum 9530-α-a:

Autopsy of first recovered instance of SCP-9530-1.

SUMMARY OF SPECIMEN HISTORY:

The specimen is an instance of SCP-9530-1, recovered from the base of SCP-9530. It had been terminated by a security guard on patrol after attempting unsuccessfully to scale the border wall. It had not been sighted prior to this, and it is assumed that it had only recently manifested.

DESCRIPTION OF GROSS LESIONS:

EXTERNAL EXAMINATION:

The specimen resembles a human female of average build, and, due to several breaks in the spinal column, measured only 85 centimetres in height when alive. Major present dermal mutations included significantly discoloured epidermis, and a large section of scar tissue on its back resembling a human figure holding an unidentified object above its head. Several shallow lacerations are present across the lower stomach region, believed to be a result of extended contact with barbed wire. Additionally, a clear gunshot wound can be found in the lower jaw, befitting the calibre of bullet through which it was made.

INTERNAL EXAMINATION (BODY CAVITIES):

There are no present bodily cavities as would normally be in a human. However, an area of tumorous tissue is present in the area of the body that would usually house the right pleural cavity.

HEART:

Although usually not present in instances, this specimen possessed a large heart of normal shape and a weight of 389 grams. The pericardium is partially intact. The epicardial fat is diffusely firm. Upon opening the heart was grossly normal without evidence of infarction. [Extraneous normal measurements omitted for brevity.] The left ventricle is partially taken up by a shard of bone measuring approximately 13 centimetres and weighing 30.63 grams, which extends into the aorta.

AORTA:

There is a large rupture present over the majority of the aortic root, measuring 7 centimetres at its longest. The shard of bone responsible for this rupture remains within the aorta, extending partially into the left ventricle. There is minimal atherosclerosis with no measurable plaques along the full length of the ascending and descending aorta.

[Remaining information omitted for brevity. Contact Archival Head Susana de Pesca for the full document.]

Addendum 9530-α-b:

Interviewed: SCP-9530-1 Non-Hostile Instance #03

Interviewer: Junior Researcher Toby Declasse

Foreword: The following interview was initiated at 3:14 PM, on 22/01/2025, one (1) week after the initial capture and separate containment of SCP-9530-1 Non Hostile Instance #03.

<Begin Log, 3:14, 22/01/2025>

Junior Researcher Declasse: Greetings, Instance #03.

Instance #03: [[illegible]] so much to do. So much to do. The Tower-

Junior Researcher Declassse: Yes, the Tower. What can you tell me about SCP-9530?

Instance #03 begins to become restless, pacing around the room.

Instance #03: I see a light, a light. It's flying towards me. I've stayed too long, Researcher. Let me go.

Junior Researcher Declasse: I am afraid that is not possible, #03. You have only been here for-

Junior Researcher Declasse briefly checks his watch.

Junior Researcher Declasse: -three minutes.

Instance #03: That's too long.

Junior Researcher Declasse: If you cooperate, you can leave faster.

Instance #03 returns to its original position, seemingly calmed.

Instance #03: It's always about the time, Researcher. Ticking away, like a little hovering face. It judges you. It judges what you do with it, for you have so little. It's a [[illegible]] not enough. There's no time in the Tower, Researcher. You just go up and up, and then you're done. Up and up and up.

Junior Researcher Declasse: Alright. Can you tell me how you appear in the tower?

Instance #03: We've always been there, Researcher. We just got there a little earlier than you. So, when you catch up, you find us.

Junior Researcher Declasse: Please clarify what you mean.

Instance #03: Time goes up, Researcher. Up and up and up, just like you will, when you're in the Tower. Nobody leaves. Once you're in the Tower, you're going up. Always up. Never down.

Pause

Instance #03: Different people climb at different speeds. We, we in the tower, are always going up. We never stop, we just climb. Climb, up and up and up. You, you, Researcher, are slower. You always stop to look around, see what surrounds you, get a feeling for the present. When you're in the Tower, there's no surroundings. No "around". You just go up. If you can't see me, I'm just a little further up than you.

Junior Researcher Declasse: Thank you, #03. You may return to your cell.

Instance #03: There's a man atop the Tower, Researcher. He's waiting for you. All of you.

<End Log, 3:21, 22/01/2025>

Closing Statement: The following morning, Instance #03 was discovered to have passed away in its sleep, due to unknown factors.

Addendum 9530-α-c:

The following is the retrieved log of the first expedition into the interior of SCP-9530. Due to a recapture effort for SCP-9737, the majority of MTF Zeta-11 were unable to arrive. However, on insistence by Dr Michael Colman and Arthur Fitzroy, the expedition was initiated at 11:30, 28/01/2025

Team Lead: Agent Richard Flag

Team Members: Agent George Harkness, Agent Benjamin Turner

[BEGIN LOG]

Flag: Is the radio working?

Turner: Yeah, got it.

Flag: George?

Harkness: Yeah, mine's working too.

Flag: Okay, last check boys. Do we have everything?

Harkness: Yes, Rick, we do.

Turner: Shouldn't we just wait for Lawton and the rest to get here?

Harkness: That's what I said.

Flag: They're chasing 9737. That's going to take them at least an hour. It's better if we go in now. Plus, orders from above.

Harkness: God bless the day I get to be there.

Flag, Harnkess and Turner enter SCP-9530. The bottom floor is mostly empty, resembling a parking garage. It is immediately apparent that the interior dimensions do not match the outside, although they are only larger by a few metres. Harkness approaches a nearby lift, pressing a few buttons. The display remains blank, and no response comes from the machine.

Harkness: It's never easy, is it?

Flag: I don't know what you were expecting.

Flag, Harkness and Turner enter a stairway about 5 metres from the lift. Halfway up the stairs, they switch from unpainted concrete to polished hardwood, with the walls now resembling the interior of an apartment.

Turner: Huh. That's jarring.

Flag: Shut up, Ben. I can hear something.

A few seconds of silence, and the sound of rustling can be heard. Harkness dismisses the sound, and continues to head up the stairs. Immediately, an instance of SCP-9530-1 lunges into him from around the corner, followed by three others.

Harkness: Shit! You bastard!

Flag: George!

Harkness unsheathes his dagger, and manages to sever the head of his attacker. Meanwhile, Flag and Turner are fending off the approaching group with pistol fire. More instances are rushing in from the upper floors. After a further 8 minutes of gunfire, no more instances emerge. The pile of bodies block the corridor leading to the next staircase, although several doorways are still accessible. Generally, the floor resembles an apartment, though considerably spacious. Turner approaches Harkness, whilst Flag keeps watch.

Turner: Are you alright, George?

Harkness: Yeah, I'll be fine. The bastard bit me, but not that hard. Brittle teeth.

Turner: That's good.

Harkness: I'd have preferred not being bitten at all.

Flag: Enough. We need to find a way further up. Are we going to try and force our way through that corpse pile, or try and find another stairwell?

Harkness: The latter. Those things are packed like sardines - it'll take forever to get through.

They advance to the next room, which resembles a kitchen. The stove and oven are on, and functional, although Flag turns them off as they pass by. Turner has gone a little further ahead.

Harkness: Why'd you do that?

Flag: Wouldn't want this place burning down beneath us.

Harkness: It's concrete, Rick.

Flag: It is, mostly, right now. Who's to say the next floor up isn't a fucking forest?

Turner returns from the next room.

Turner: I've found another staircase. It's back to parking garage.

The next two floors are entirely empty, likely due to the considerable amount of SCP-9530-1 instances disposed of on the apartment floor. The first is very similar to the bottom floor, though slightly smaller, and lacking a lift. The second resembles a supermarket, with the staircase up being found in the employees only area. As they ascend, smog begins to spread from the floor above, partially obscuring the view of the cameras. The team collectively equips gas masks.

Harkness: What's even causing this?

Turner: A fire?

Flag: Smoke floats up, Ben. Not down.

Harkness: Always up, never down.

Flag: What?

Harkness: Didn't you read the file? One of the talkative ones was rambling on about that for about seven minutes.

Flag: I'm impressed, George. You actually prepared for once.

The staircase comes into view, resembling that of a basement. On the wall beside it, a message is scratched into the concrete, likely by an instance of SCP-9530. The message reads "The last floor before the top. We dare you to climb, Colman". Beneath the message is a human corpse, obscured by the fog, although matching the appearance of Dr Colman.

Turner: Shit, that's Michael Colman, right?

Harkness: One of the guys that made us come on this expedition early. Serves him right.

Flag: Come on, we have to keep moving.

They continue up the staircase. However, before reaching the next floor, an explosion can be heard, and the audio and video cuts off. This explosion was not heard from outside SCP-9530. Following this, Agents Flag, Harkness and Turner have been presumed dead.

SCP-9530 at initial discovery.

Special Containment Procedures:

A 2-meter high border wall has been erected at a radius of 10 metres around SCP-9530. 15 fully armed security guards must remain present around the border of SCP-9530's exclusion zone at all times, with 5 present at each of the 3 checkpoints. No personnel are permitted to enter this radius without direct written permission from Dr Michael Colman. In this case, personnel are required to undergo a 3 hour quarantine for purposes of decontamination.

Deceased instances of SCP-9530-1 must be disposed of as soon as it is plausible. Until that point, they must be stored in Anomalous Item Storage Wing D.

Instances will usually appear to be mid-action, with the most common including cooking, conversing, typing on a keyboard, or consuming food. Additionally, instances of SCP-9530-1 do not appear to be affected by any present forces until they become aware of the presence of a creature that is not one of their own, therefore remaining in their positions, regardless of the physical impracticality.

Addendum 9530-β-a:

<Begin Audio Log, 22:41, 16/02/2025>

Dr Colman: This is for you, Minseo. If you so choose to go to the Ethics Committee about this, here's your evidence. Here's your ammunition. I don't think you'll use it, not really. You're all empty threats and hate.

Pause.

Dr Colman: I executed every single instance of SCP-9530-1 that we had. All 300 of them. And I'm not sorry. You'll see what I mean. I mean, when you see a facsimile of your own body - dead, of course - live on camera, it's hard not to take it a little personally. I think Dr Brief told me that enough already. But that's not all. I've been having dreams, all kinds of dreams, and all of them are of that tower. It's mocking me, you have to understand.

Pause.

Dr Colman: I'm climbing a little faster now, faster than the rest of you.

Team Lead: Agent Floyd Lawton

Team Members: Agent Nanaue, Agent Harley Quinzel, Agent June Moone, Researcher Amanda Waller, Researcher Grant Morrison

[BEGIN LOG]

Lawton: You all know procedure. Radio check?

Nanaue: Working.

Moone: Working.

Quinzel: Yeah, sure, Floyd. They're working.

Lawton: And our researchers?

Waller: Radio working.

Morrison: Mine's working also.

Lawton: So, we all know what happened early on in the last expedition. As such, we have been provided with-

Lawton turns to Waller and Morrison, the latter of whom presents 6 small amulets. Each amulet is made of stainless steel, and bears 5 distinct thaumaturgic symbols. Lawton takes 5, keeping 1 to himself and distributing the remainder around the team, 1 per person.

Lawton: Would one of you mind explaining?

Waller: These bear a few runes. The details aren't so important to the expedition that I'll explain, but here's the basics; we're practically undetectable by any natural sense - think sight, hearing, touch - by any living creature. Which, surprisingly, those corpse-creatures actually are.

Quinzel: So basically don't fuck up horribly and we'll be fine.

Moone: Isn't that the case for every mission?

Nanaue: More wiggle room.

Quinzel: Thanks, big guy.

MTF Zeta-11 approaches the entrance to SCP-9530. The first floor remains exactly as in the previous expedition, with the exception of the lift, which appears to be out of order - as indicated by a paper sign, attached to the doors with caution tape.

Quinzel: Tasteful.

Lawton: Up we go.

MTF Zeta-11 ascends to the second floor. However, where on the previous expedition the material of the staircase switched halfway to resemble an urban apartment complex, the second floor now resembles a warehouse.

Waller: Fuck, it changes.

Quinzel: Of course it does, what were we expecting?

Lawton and Nanaue turn the corner, revealing that the second floor extends well beyond the external dimensions of SCP-9530. Several instances of SCP-9530-1 can be seen around the floor, in varying positions. From their motionlessness, it can be ascertained that they have not noticed MTF Zeta-11.

Moone: Damn, that's kinda creepy.

Quinzel: Kinda? They're ignoring gravity. Look at that one.

Quinzel points to an instance of SCP-9530-1, which is suspended in the air mid-jump, approximately 60 centimetres above the ground.

Quinzel: What do you think happens if I poke it?

Lawton: Don't.

Quinzel: Relax, Floyd. It was a hypothetical.

Lawton: An unnecessary one. Nobody here is stupid enough to do that. I hope.

MTF Zeta-11 advances further through the warehouse environment, passing by a considerable number of SCP-9530-1 instances. After approximately 25 minutes, they come across a ladder suspended from a torn gap in the ceiling. The base of the ladder remains over 14 metres above the ground, but is within reach of the top of one of the shelves, which is partially stocked with large crates. Lawton approaches the shelving, and begins to ascend.

Moone: Guess we're going up that way.

Quinzel: Captain Obvious.

Moone: Isn't that joke about 20 years old?

Lawton: Both of you, quiet.

MTF-Zeta begin to collectively ascend the shelving. Approximately halfway up, Morrison loses his grip, and attempts to grab onto one of the crates, which falls with him. The resulting sound bypasses the effects of the thaumaturgic amulets - likely due to being partially created by an external object. This triggers every instance of SCP-9530-1 on the second floor, which quickly begin to close in on Morrison, who remains trapped beneath the crate.

Waller: Shit, Morrison!

Lawton: Just leave him. We can't afford to collect his body.

Quinzel: Not like they'll be anything left of him.

Nanaue: Poor guy.

Moone: At least it wasn't us.

Morrison's screams can be heard for the next 6 minutes as MTF Zeta-11 ascends the ladder and explores the third floor, which resembles an abandoned school. The immediate environment seems to be a classroom.

Lawton: Okay, a school. Where would stairs be here?

Waller: I guess we stick to the corridors, right?

Lawton: Right.

Quinzel: And that's the way we're going.

MTF Zeta-11 exits the classroom and collectively turn right to explore the corridors. More instances of SCP-9530-1 are present all throughout. Soon, they approach the next staircase, and ascend without difficulty.

[Extraneous records removed for brevity.]

MTF-Zeta-11 arrives at the fifteenth floor of SCP-9530.

Moone: Does anyone else feel like they're being watched?

Waller: Yeah.

Nanaue: Me too.

Moone: Do you think it's an anomaly, or just the uncanny valley?

Lawton: The latter. Keep moving.

Quinzel: How much longer do we have?

Moone: What is that supposed to mean?

Quinzel: We've been going up for hours. Surely we can take a break, or set up camp, or something.

Lawton: Actually, that's a good call. Everyone, we're resting here.

//MTF Zeta-11 goes on to set up a rudimentary camp zone. Midway through construction, their cameras are collectively turned off.

Lawton and Moone's cameras turn on at approximately 01:06. It appears a considerable group of SCP-9530-1 instances are attacking the camp, as both agents run. They are not noticed by any active instances, coming to a staircase that leads up to the sixteenth floor. This floor resembles a traditional office, with large glass windows - the first time windows have been present within SCP-9530's interior structure. Beyond the windows is darkness.

Moone: Holy shit, Floyd. Think we lost them?

Lawton: Hopefully. What a way to go.

Moone: Did the amulets just… stop working?

Lawton: I don't know. Maybe we screwed it up somehow. Morrison was the expert on that, and he's not here to tell us.

Moone: Great. I can't see a staircase anywhere around here.

Lawton: Yeah, but I can't see any of the corpses, either. Looks like we're safe.

Moone: For now.

Lawton: We sure as hell can't go back down there. Want to hedge our bets on heading further up?

Moone: Always up. Never down.

Lawton: Is that a yes?

Moone approaches the window, placing her hand against the glass. No reflection is observed, as it appears the darkness on the other side absorbs all light.

Moone: I'm done. I'm done with this. I'm so fucking done.

Lawton: What are you going to do? Go the same way as the others?

Moone: No, I'm hedging my bets. In a different way.

//Moone steps back, then leaps through the window. Immediately, upon the glass being breached, all connections to the remaining members of MTF Zeta-11 are lost. Moone's body was later recovered.

Additionally, instances of SCP-9530-1 do not appear to be affected by any present forces until they become aware of the presence of a creature that is not one of their own, therefore remaining in their positions, regardless of the physical impracticality.

Interviewed: Assistant Director of Security Nikola Arkopov

Interviewer: Assistant Director of Containment Michael Colman

Foreword: Arkopov, despite possessing Level 4 clearance, does not possess specific 4/9530 clearance. As such, upon making inquiries towards the use of security personnel for the containment of SCP-9530. This interview is the result, following containment procedures.

<Begin Log, 11:53, 29/02/2025>

Dr Colman: So, Nikola. What was it? Curiosity? Jealousy? Hope?

Arkopov: Michael, you are not well. This is some kind of infohazard - you've been obsessing over SCP-9530 for a month now. What happened to your other projects?

Dr Colman: They aren't as high priority. SCP-9530 is a Keter. They're all Euclid.

Arkopov: SCP-9530 is Keter because you made it Keter. That's not an excuse.

Dr Colman slams his hand down on the table, expressing clear anger.

Dr Colman: (shouting) This is my project, Nikola! Stay out of it!

Arkopov: This is not healthy, Michael. I'm going to send you to Ashton.

Dr Colman: I am a bullwark, Nikola. I am the only one who sees the danger. I am the only person capable of stopping what that goddamn Tower has in store for us. I am the wall between us and the Tower, and I am putting those walls in place.

Pause.

Dr Colman: But you, Nikola, you and everybody else. You want to tear down those walls, and let the Tower take you down. You want to take me away from the one place that you need me. You need me, Nikola. All of Site-210 needs me. But you can't see that, can you?

Arkopov: No. You're the only one who can see that, Colman.

Significant pause. Colman seems to calm down.

Dr Colman: Thank you, Arko-

Arkopov: And that's the problem. I'm calling a council. And you, Colman, will be there.

Arkopov stands, intending to exit. The security guards allow her to pass. Colman remains at his seat.

<End Log, 12:01, 29/02/2025>

Closing Statement: I will have to go. I will prove them wrong.

Subject of Discussion: The relationship between SCP-9530 and Dr Michael Colman's decline

Members of Council: Site Director Edgar Oginatri, Assistant Director of Research Dr Theo Tesser, Assistant Director of Containment Dr Michael Colman, Assistant Director of Task Forces Arthur Fitzroy, Assistant Director of Personnel Prof. David Allison-Mayne, Assistant Director of Security Nikola Arkopov, Archival Manager Susana de Pesca, Ethics Committee Liaison Minseo Yu

[BEGIN LOG]

Arkopov: Michael, I'm glad you actually came.

Dr Colman: What is the point of this, Nikola? You aren't going to change anything.

Prof. Allison-Mayne: Our hope is that you're wrong.

Yu: You know what you're doing is wrong. You just don't think so.

Dr Colman: This is the fucking SCP Foundation. Our job is to contain anomalies. How can you punish me for doing my job?

Dr Tesser: There is a difference between containment and obsession.

Arkopov: And you crossed that line a while ago.

Dr Colman: And none of you have?

Oginatri: Not enough.

Dr Colman begins to stand up, when de Pesca turns on the projector.

Audio Log Recovered from External Section of SCP-9530

[BEGIN LOG]
Dr Colman: I've been here longer than you imagined.

Pause.

Dr Colman: I hated everybody. I wasn't happy. I learnt that later, and reached out to help myself. I'm not grateful, but I'm happier.

Pause.

Dr Colman: Thank you for talking to me. You will join those below us soon.

Significant pause.

[END LOG]

Dr Colman: What the fuck?

Dr Tesser: Which is what I thought as well.

Dr Colman: That's my fucking voice. How did you get that?

Yu: It says at the top, Colman. Are you that far down the rabbit hole?

Dr Colman: Always up. Never down.

Pause.

de Pesca: Sorry, what? Why?

Dr Colman: That's what it says in the file, right?

Dr Tesser: Is this actually an infohazard?

Prof. Allison-Mayne: No, we screened it for that. This is actually a good point for the next thing.

Oginatri: Shall I?

Prof. Allison-Mayne: You shall, Director.

Recorded Conversation with On-Site Psychologist, File #213 - 31/01/2025

[BEGIN LOG]

Dr Brief: You wanted to talk to me, Michael?

Dr Colman: Yeah. Have you read the SCP-9530 file?

Dr Brief: You mean the tower in the centre of our facility?

Dr Colman: That one.

Dr Brief: Yes. I finished reading it earlier today, actually.

Pause.

Dr Colman: So you saw the corpse.

Dr Brief: Ah. Michael, I assume that you're worried about that.

Dr Colman: You could say so, yes.

Dr Brief: Don't worry. That sort of thing happens fairly often, all things considered. Anomalies like this one are trying to taunt people into entering them. You can see something similar with SCP-3333.

Dr Colman: That's not all, though. I've been having dreams about it.

Dr Brief: Could you elaborate?

Dr Colman: It always starts at the bottom of the tower. I guess, in a sense, everything does. I walk in, and I look around. There's a shit ton of those corpse creatures - instances of SCP-9530-1 - everywhere, in all kinds of positions. All motionless. They're just letting me go past.

Dr Brief: Yes?

Dr Colman: I go up a level, then another, then another. And, unlike in the logs, it's the same thing each time. The parking lot, for a few levels. Then it's just abandoned concrete offices, over and over and over again. The further up I get, the less SCP-9530-1 instances there are. And the few that are there, are just standing, looking toward me. Smiling.

Dr Brief: And yet, they do not move?

Dr Colman: Exactly. I'm walking up for hours, what feels like an entire day, and the further up I get, the foggier it gets. Not in terms of memory - it's literal fog. I start to choke, but I keep going. Soon, the fog is so thick that I can't see anything but the hazy grey, but I keep moving, almost as if I know where I'm going. Eventually, I reach the top.

Dr Brief: And what do you see?

Dr Colman: There's a man atop the tower. He turns to me, and…

Pause.

Dr Colman: I wake up.

[END LOG]

Prof. Allison-Mayne: I am assured you can see how this is worrying, Michael, especially given your current state.

Dr Colman: Does Ashton know you have that? You can't use those recordings if he doesn't know.

de Pesca: Of course he knows, Michael. He gave them to us-

Oginatri: To me specifically.

de Pesca: Because he was worried about you.

Dr Colman: Lies. You're lying to me. You're the ones being influenced, not me. I will be the one to save us, and then you'll see.

Dr Tesser: Michael, please reconsider.

Without a further word, Dr Colman stands up and exits the conference room.

Oginatri: Well, shit. That didn't go well.

Prof. Allison-Mayne: Perhaps we could have been a little more tactful.

Yu: I don't see it that way. This seems like a foregone conclusion by him. No matter what we did, we were too late.

Minseo Yu stands, as everyone excepting her and Edgar Oginatri leave.

Yu: I don't think I can go to the Committee about this, Edgar. I'm sorry.

Oginatri: No, I understand. He's not doing anything that could be called "unethical". I'm just worried for him.

Yu: Aren't we all?

Exploration Video Log Transcript

Date: 30/02/2026

Exploration Team: Dr Michael Colman

Subject: SCP-9530

[BEGIN LOG]

When connection is achieved, Dr Colman had been missing from Site-210 for approximately 8 hours, having disappeared immediately after leaving the conference room. It appears he is a considerable distance up the interior of SCP-9530, and the immediate environment seems reminiscent of a brutalist-style office. The room is clouded by a significant degree of fog, with only 2 instances of SCP-9530-1 present.

Dr Colman: (coughing) I will do this. I will do this. I will- (further coughing) do this.

Dr Colman approaches one of the instances, striking it in the face. No response is shown.

Dr Colman: What even are you? Why?

Dr Colman locates the next stairway, and ascends. The above floor is exactly the same physically, but lacks all instances of SCP-9530-1. The fog is so thick as to be nearly opaque.

Dr Colman: You want me? You want to see if I can do this?

Pause.

Dr Colman: Or do you just want to- (coughing) see me fail? See me die?

Dr Colman locates the next stairway, and ascends. The above floor is exactly the same.

Dr Colman: What are you going to do to them? Kill them? Make them suffer? Watch as they struggle? Watch me- (coughing) die trying to stop you?

Dr Colman locates the final stairway, which is free of fog. Atop the stairway is a large trapdoor, which he is able to open, albeit with great difficulty. Around him is the roof of SCP-9530. Cameras observing the exterior of SCP-9530 at this time were unable to view him.

Dr Colman: Damn. I actually- (coughing) made it?

A humanoid figure comes into view. The figure resembles Former Assistant Director of Containment Dr Michael Colman. This figure is henceforth referred to as SCP-9530-2.

SCP-9530-2: Hello.

Dr Colman: Who are you?

SCP-9530-2 can be seen to approach the edge of SCP-9530, a few metres beneath which is a thick layer of fog, and beckons Dr Colman to stand beside it. Dr Colman obliges.

SCP-9530-2: I think you can work that out for yourself.

Dr Colman: You. You're the man atop the Tower.

SCP-9530-2: Indeed. As you can see by our present location.

Dr Colman: Did you make this?

SCP-9530-2: Who else could?

Dr Colman: Then why? Why do all this? What reason did you have?

SCP-9530-2: What reason did you have, Dr Michael Colman? Because you felt personally attacked by the anomaly? Because you feared for your life? Because you genuinely believed you could do good?

Dr Colman remains silent.

SCP-9530-2: We both know that's not the case, Doctor. But now what? The rules are simple. Always up. Never down. So, I'd like to ask you, what do you do when you've reached the top? When you can't go up any more?

Pause.

SCP-9530-2: You'll come to the same conclusion as I did. To wait.
