Special Containment Procedures: The walls of SCP-9814's containment chamber are lined with seven (7) millimeter thick tungsten plates, which are replaced yearly. No personnel are to be within SCP-9814's containment chamber at any times other than the purpose of replacing these plates. When this is carried out, a tungsten box is lowered over SCP-9814 to prevent it from becoming active.

Description: SCP-9814 is a wooden dining chair, measuring fifty-eight (58) centimeters in height. It is carved ornately, with traditional Chinese markings and designs engraved on it except for the seat, and coated with dark brown lacquer. Testing of SCP-9814's wood has revealed it is carved from a Japanese cherry blossom tree, and the item is not segmented into pieces, meaning it was made from a whole segment of the tree.

When a person is within SCP-9814's vicinity, around five (5) to ten (10) meters, and within visible range of SCP-9814, it will enter its active stage, in which it will violently detonate with the force of one (1) kilogram of TNT explosive. This explosion happens spontaneously from every part of the item, rather than from a centralized detonation, and will launch wooden shards up to twenty (20) meters away. Approximately forty-five (45) minutes after SCP-9814's active stage begins, it will deactivate and re-enter its inactive stage. When this begins, all shards of SCP-9814 will reform into SCP-9814. This appears to happen in reverse-time, with the shards moving in the exact path they exploded in, accompanied by the reversed audio of the explosion, and the flames returning into the reconstruction. This occurs in less than two (2) seconds. SCP-9814 has also repeatedly activated for seemingly no reason, as there were no personnel nearby. This is theorized to be either a malfunction due to the item's origin, or the item receiving signals to enter its active state.

Discovery: SCP-9814 was discovered in the home of retired nurse and two (2) time lottery winner Constance Bullsworth, age sixty-six (66), who was found severely mangled on her dining room floor after she was reported missing by her sisters. Her dining room, and parts of her kitchen and living room were completely destroyed. The only thing that was not damaged in the dining room was SCP-9814.

It was found that Constance had purchased SCP-9814 from an antique dealer, who had previously acquired the item through Marshall, Carter & Dark LLC. On her nightstand, an unopened letter was found, that had apparently come with the item, detailed below.

Item #942

An unassuming item at first, this seemingly normal chair has an explosive ability that is perfect for any would-be assassins or score-settling customers needing an easy way to remove a target. Simply place this object within a target's abode or deliver it via mail— guised as a gift, perhaps— and wait.

If put on the setting "Scheduled," the item will activate on a timer according to what is typed on the controller. This setting is recommended for long distances or routinely targets.

If put on the setting "Still," the item will not activate unless manually activated from the controller. This setting is recommended for those who can keep an eye on their target or timed hits.

If put on the setting "Proximity," the item will activate if anyone enters its vicinity. This setting is recommended for usage on suspicious targets.

When recollection is possible, the item reforms either automatically and can be locked into inactivity, or can be manually instigated by the controller, making the item easily transportable. This item is also guaranteed to work within a distance of 9500 kilometers. The death of your target is nearly guaranteed!

Bidding starts at $12,000
