SCP-8204 - Department Recovered From The Marianas Trench
Author: MontagueETC
Item №: SCP-8204
Object Class: Neutralized
SCP-8204 corridor.
Archived Containment Procedures: All personnel assigned to SCP-8204 are to be stationed within the anomaly itself. Supplies are to be delivered on a monthly basis via unmanned deep sea submersible.
Description: SCP-8204 is an underwater habitat built into the rockface of the Marianas Trench, 9400 meters below sea level. It has sustained significant damage of indeterminate provenance; portions of the facility have been sealed off due to structural instability or flooding.
SCP-8204 is divided into six sections, which are as follows:
Designation: Section Alpha
Description: Life-support systems. The central power generator has been partially damaged by invasive flora, causing intermittent power fluctuations throughout the facility.
Designation: Section Beta
Description: Habitation. The presence of abandoned personal effects suggests that prior residents were made to leave SCP-8204 unexpectedly.
Designation: Section Gamma
Description: Containment. Cells are empty and do not appear to have been previously occupied.
Designation: Section Delta
Description: Hydroponics. Largely obstructed by dense vegetation. Bone fragments from at least twelve different human skulls were scattered throughout the area.
Designation: Section Epsilon
Description: Administrative offices. A preserved corpse that strongly resembles Dr. ████ was discovered in its entryway. The corpse showed no signs of injury, although a bullet was found in its mouth. When questioned, Dr. ████ had no knowledge of the anomaly.
Designation: Section Zeta
Description: Digital archives. Appears to be as large or larger than the rest of the facility. 99.998% of stored data has been deemed irretrievable.
[SECURITY COGNITOHAZARD ACTIVATED: SCANNING FOR NEURAL ACTIVITY]
CONSCIOUSNESS CONFIRMED. RETRIEVING ADDENDA.
Addendum 8204-1: Gamma Manifestations
In the event that one or more living humans enter a Section Gamma cell, illusory phenomena will manifest within it so long as they remain inside its boundaries. Illusory effects are distinct to each cell, remaining consistent across occurrences.
Cell #: 67
Manifestation: Night. Interior of a burning building. Flames let off heat but do not cause pain. Through a window, figures wearing stone masks are seen dancing in the street.
Cell #: 29
Manifestation: Day. Interior of a helicopter overlooking an urban coastline. A ~40 km diameter chasm appears to have abruptly manifested within the city, cutting a circular hole into the land and sea.
Cell #: 45
Manifestation: Night. Snowy arboreal landscape. Over the course of 15 minutes, the full moon enters view from behind cloud cover. Muffled human screaming begins to emanate from the earth.
Cell #: 01
Manifestation: A field of beautiful flowers. Day.
Addendum 8204-2: Final Manifestation
On 11 November 2013, a hidden cell was found behind a false wall in Section Epsilon. The following is what occurred upon first contact:
[BEGIN LOG]
[Researcher Williams enters the cell. Upon crossing the threshold, Dr. ████ appears on the opposite side of the chamber, facing away. He takes a small piece of chalk out of his pocket and starts drawing a circle on the wall.]
Dr. ████: We saw it, through the dark. Secreted away in our deep alcove. The ends. The means. The pattern. The slaughter loop.
[Dr. ████'s chalk line nears its origin point but narrowly misses it, becoming a spiral. He continues to draw.]
Dr. ████: Our planet lives. It dies. It breathes. Always leaving but always returning.
[Dr. ████'s drawing becomes more and more fervent. As the chalk wears away to a nub, his fingers begin to scrape against the wall, leaving traces of blood in the line. The spiral becomes a gradient of white-to-red.]
Dr. ████: A song smothers the world, but it returns. Our sun becomes a blasphemy, but it returns. The children are eating us but it returns!
[Skin tears. Dr. ████ reaches the center of the spiral. His arm falls limply to his side, blood dripping freely from his shredded fingers.]
Dr. ████: It was never a loop.
[Dr. ████ turns toward Researcher Williams. The top half of his face is an empty pit.]
Dr. ████: This is your last chance. I pray it will not be wasted.
[Dr. ████ vanishes but the sanguine spiral remains. Anomalous activity within SCP-8204 ceases shortly thereafter.]
